Task 01: SKETCHBOOK-PORTFOLIO RESEARCH & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
WEEK 1: 4/4/2023 INTRODUCTION & BRIEFING
In the week 1 class session, Mr. Jasmi gives us a lecture about Modular fashion and also brief us on our 1 assignment. After that, I started researching and choosing a subject matter inspiration by starting to do mind-mapping:
At first, I have no idea of what is Modular fashion therefore I have do some research on it.
After that, I found a muse name Laura Michelle Hollins an English model and actress. She is best known for her successful modeling career in the 2000s and has been called one of the decade's top models because of her unique and androgynous look, with short bleached hair and a striking presence on the catwalk.
Hence, I found a muse who has an androgynous look, which reminds me of a Disney movie character named Mulan. She disguises herself as a man to replace her father in the Chinese army and protect her family and country from invaders. Based on a Chinese legend, the film explores gender roles and identity. Mulan defies gender norms by dressing as a man and achieving success in the army, demonstrating that one's abilities should not be limited by their gender. Therefore Mulan outfit inspires me so my subject matter is Mulan attire.
WEEK 2: 11/4/2023 RESEARCH AND DESIGN CONSTRUCTION
After I have my subject matter, I started to research Mulan attire, which is the China army amour. Through my research, I found that different types of the army actually are wearing different types of armor.

Later on, I found out that there is one kind of fabric manipulation called smocking. It can create a texture that is almost similar to the amour so I am searching on the smocking technical and pattern for my fabric manipulation.
WEEK 3: 18/4/2023 RESEARCH AND DESIGN CONSTRUCTION
In week 3, I started to write my Conceptual story interpretation. The concept story interpretation is written about how I got the inspiration and my subject matter. In the end, is writing about what I planning to make, which season of the collection, and how was the outcome looks like.
Other than that, I also started to do the mood board. I have included the subject matter, the character, the colour pallet, fabric manipulation, and the art installation.
WEEK 4: 25/4/2023 DESIGN CONSTRUCTION
In week 4, I start to do the initial idea developments. Since my subject matter is Mulan attire therefore I'm using the amour silhouette to do the photomontage. I have explored 10 of the initial ideal development.

WEEK 5: 2/5/2023 RESEARCH & DESIGN CONSTRUCTION
In week 5, I started to doodle development so that I can have some vision of how the garment will look like. Then I started to draw and write down and plan how am I going to transform my garment into a new silhouetted.

Week 06：9/5/2023 workshop
We have a public lecture & talk by Mr. Dai Fujiwara. Other than that I also attend the two-day workshop. In this workshop, we form 3 people in one group, and then we have to use just two days to create a garment and also a video.
We started by using the draping method. I'm using the hand-sew method to secure our draping.
This is the video we prepare for our presentation.
In this two-day workshop, I met new friends, and also learn that anything is possible. We just used two days to create one garment and a video. After finishing this workshop I realize that sometimes simple things also can create beautiful things.
Task 02: FABRIC MANIPULATION & SAMPLING
WEEK 07: 16/5/2023 FABRIC MANIPULATION & SAMPLING
Starting this week I'm going to cut and sew. At first, I research my fabric manipulation. And I found out that there are two methods that actually can achieve an outcome that is look-alike to my subject method.
After discussing with my lecturer, I decided to use the quilting technic to do my texture.

This is quite challenging to be because when I sew them together, the fiber is too thick and the fabric is running here and there and some part of the corner couldn't sew it nicely. Then I found a solution which is to separate the fiber in half so that it is thinner iker and easy for me to sew.
This texture somehow looks like the texture of the Chinese amour, therefore I'm going to use this technic to be my texture so that it helps me to interpret my idea of Mulan bringing into my garment.
Final Project: CONVERTIBLE/ MODULAR FASHION
WEEK 8: 22/5/2023 - 26/5/2023 INDEPENDENT WEEK/ REPLACEMENT CLASS FOR EID
In week 8, I started to go fabric hunting. I go Kuala Lumpur Kamdar, and Gio Fabric to get the sample.
I even go to Bunga Ribbon to get the snap button for try and error.
After I finished my fabric hunting, I negotiate with my lecturer what I'm going to use and the colour combination of my collection.
Then I start to cut and sew for my toile so that I can try how my garment going to transform.
I do the quilting on the sleeve and snap the button on so that it can be detachable.
This is the hold for the hand to come out.
After I finish my toile, I also ask one of my juniors to try it on and to show it's my transformation work.

WEEK10 : 7/6/2023 GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
In week 10, I started to do the actual garment and drawing technical drawing for my Look 1

When I do my look 1, I do it confidently because I have done the toile before. The difficulty is that some of the panels I change detach to different parts so some silhouettes will be slightly changed a bit. The problem I face is that when I sew the panels together I did not sew the fiber together with my fabric so end up the fabric is running here and there it cause the garment to look uneven because the fiber inside is running here and there.

In week 10 I even started to draw my Look 2 technical drawing.
Then I drape them on the dummy to see the outcome.
Then I started to organize what type colour and fabric I'm going to use.
For this LOOK 2 I going to use black brocade combine with light brown and black cotton together and then also apply fiber inside the garment.
WEEK11 : 14/6/2023 GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
In week 11 I started to draw my Look 2 technical drawing.

For my look 2, It's much easier for me to sew it because I already master how the progress to sew the quilting therefore for my look 2 it looks more neat.

WEEK12 : 21/6/2023 GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
Week 12 I started to do the pattern drafting on my look 3. Before I start to draw my pattern drafting, I start to draw my technical drawing.
This is the Fabric I'm going to use for my look three which is gold and black brocade and red and black cotton.
Then I started to draw my pattern drafting. The problem I face when I started to draw my look 3 pattern drafting, is my garment actually is a cape, and then for the transformation I want it to be a dress with a corset, which mean the collar for my cape is actually is my corset also and this kind of pattern drafting is quite new for me so instated of drawing it out, I started to draping on the dummy to find the silhouette.
I also inserted a motif of Mulan which is a Chinese lion and attached it on the should which is look like a shoulder pad.
WEEK13 : 28/6/2023 GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
In week 13, I only started to sew my Look 3 because the pattern drafting is difficult for me to understand so I spend some time to try it out how I going to sew my Look 3.
Front this video you can see that I started by drawing my pattern drafting. In the middle of my drawing, I realize that the collar transform into a corset is quite difficult to refine the line for me to sew, so I consult with my lecturer and then I started to drape the outcome on the dummy and only I transfer it into pattern block. Overall is quite simple and easy for me to draw and sew.

WEEK14 : 4/7/2023 THE SHOW
Week 14 is our 'The Show' runway show.
WEEK 15 : 6/7/2023 Presentation Day
Today is the day of my presentation. Everything goes smoothly and gratefully I can say. Very thankful to my lecturer who guide me and help me to bring my collection into reality.
