The BRIEF

This task is to learn about garment draping. First, I need to understand the body form and identify the correct areas of the bustline, waistline, hipline, and princess line. (The Princess line is the vertical line that divides the body in half from the centre front to the side seam.)

So, for this assignment, I am supposed to drape a basic dress and choose one style of princess line cut (classic or modern), translate the draping result into a working pattern, and then sew the pattern using Colico Fabric to understand the foundations of the draping technique.

My Progress:

Step 1:

Front                                      Back                                    Side

For this part, we only need to do it for one side only, so I am sharing the dummy with my classmate. And to differentiate which one side is mine, we used different colours of draping tape. I am using red colour draping tape.

Step 2:

Before cutting the calico fabric, measure the part that needs to cover and add a 5-10 cm seam allowance for the extra excess fabric to fold or shape.

This is the outcome:

Step 3:

Take out the calico fabric from the dummy and refine the line.

Lay the fabric on the new calico fabric and arrange it accordingly by following the grainline before cutting it down so that I can save the fabric as much as I can.

Start to sew the calico fabric first to see if it's matches

This is the outcome, and it matches perfectly.

Step 4:

Lay the temple on the white lining fabric.                       Cut them out
