Project 02: Sense of place

 Required: 

Apply the design principles I have learned to date in order to express a location of my choice and apply design principles in my work.

Narrative:

My family and I went to Beijing before the pandemic. I remember when we visited many local tourist attractions. But the Forbidden City is one of my most impressive tourist attractions. There is the Royal Collection and Museum. The Forbidden City is the historic Chinese imperial palace and the winter palace of the Chinese emperors from 1406 to 1420. For nearly 500 years, the Forbidden City has been home to Chinese emperors and their families. 

The Palace Museum has been in charge of the Forbidden City since 1925. They restored the walls and buildings that were damaged during the war, and restored it to be exactly the same as the former condition. When I saw the buildings of the Forbidden City, I was shocked. Because the Forbidden City has been present for decades, I can still see it with my own eyes.

My exploration:

1)

This is one of the scenes that I recall right now, and I sketch it out in the colour that I recall.

2)

After applying the colour, it did not meet my expectations, so I changed the colour tone to make the colour look sharper and more contrasted.

3)

Then I experimented with how to show contrast so that the foreground is clearly visible while the background capacity is reduced.

4)

I even changed the drawing to black and white to show contrast, the result was not clear.

Final outcome:

After experimenting with the design, I prefer my second experiment, which involves adjusting the tone. After adjusting the tone, the primary colour seems more crisp, which I use to fill in the art work so that it symbolises the contrast and can also separate the texture. This drawing I made combines asymmetrical balance to showcase the two faces of the structure more clearly. Aside from that, I sketch the structure utilising the idea of repetition to give the impression of unity.

My artwork has become increasingly interesting. And I can experiment with different types of design. Be courage to try, even if the outcome I don't like.

Self-reflection for the week

To be honest, this week has been difficult for me because I needed to complete another assignment; I can say that I was exhausted. Fortunately, I was able to complete my assignment.
